Lightning Ridge is proberbly the first large tourist town we had been in since leaving Mt Isa and there are plenty of things to see for the discerning tourist.
The day after we lost our awning the storms came in with some heavy rain overnight. This tested our water tightness and we are happy to say there were no leaks detected so far. The following day was pretty much gloomy and we spent most of it inside the van. There was one quick walk into town to pick up some bread and milk from Woollies and a brief as time possible spent BBQing some sausages for the evening meal.
The insurance company called by 9am on Monday they asked if there was a prefered repairer we would like to use. We asked if we could ring a couple of places to see if they would be interested and get back to them.
Our awning tried to stand up to to a nasty mini tornado yesterday unfortunately our awning lost and got knock flat on its back across the roof of the van.
Mitchell was one of the best free campspots we have stayed at so far. Its close proximity to a town a supply of drinking water at the campsite and toilet facilities made it a comfortable extended stop The only thing missing would be an onsite dump point.
