The time to leave and head south is upon us. We have enjoyed our stay and would consider living here but the call of family and friends is too much, so we are now into the final leg of our Big Lap Around Australia. We did have to delay our departure untill Wednesday due to cyclone Debbie. We were lucky it didn't affect us as it crossed the coast the other side of Bowen from us. It will become more of a problem for us as some of the areas we will pass through will have been affected by the cyclone.
Currently the Cyclone is not predicted to hit anywhere near the Cairns area, instead crossing the coast over the town of Home Hill, about 350 Km south of us. It is expected to be a category 4 and will travel about 300 km inland dumping a huge volume of rain as it goes.
We are planing to head off on Monday the 27th of March, unfortunately Mother Nature has decided to throw us a curve ball in the form of a possible cyclone, the first for this season.
We sat down the other night and worked out that we have been based in North Queenland for 11 months, which suprised us as we didn't think we had been here that long. Apart from a few trips back to Perth, a short christmas stint in Sydney and few weeks in New Zealand, we have been up here the rest of the time. I guess it ticked of one of my to do list items, living in the tropics for a year. We hadn't planned to be here that long, it just seem to work out that way, but it gave us the opportunity to sample both Wet, and Dry Season's.
